This architecturally-designed timber framed residence rests on an innovative steel truss system designed to accommodate the steep building site. The steel support structure was designed to be pre-fabricated off-site in order to kick-start the compressed 10-month construction schedule. Concrete, steel, wood and glulam structural components were integrated throughout the project.
This residence was a result of a collaborative process between the clients and designers, resulting in a highly energy efficient, environmentally responsible, healthy home. Embedded into the site using insulated concrete forms, this residence boasts a rainwater capture system, an innovative building envelope for increased insulation value, a green roof patio, and a high percentage of materials that are sustainably harvested, regionally sourced, and have recycled content.
Inspired by the sacred geometry of the pyramid, this residence was constructed using modern materials to maximize functional interior space. The project design included an ingenious blend of reinforced concrete for the studio space, structural steel and dimensional wood for the main floor living space, and a timber framed upper level. Structural design was completed using 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM) software.
This architecturally designed residence is located near the shore of the West Arm of Kootenay Lake. The elaborate design included concealed structural cantilevers, and exquisite glulam connection details. The project utilized a blend of modern materials, which included glulam, galvanized steel, and reinforced concrete.
