Completed in August, 2010, the Christina Living Arts Centre is located in the heart of the Christina Lake community. The Centre, a grassroots effort stemming from a ten year process, created a much-needed community centre for the region. It acts as a tourist attraction and education facility that showcases the region's vibrant arts and cultural life, as well as its commitment to environmental sustainability. This building boasts high performance green construction standards and earth-friendly materials.
Multiple renovations, modernizations, and upgrades to the existing historical red-brick fire hall building have been completed over the past decade, including renovations to the firefighter’s dormitory housed on the second floor of the building, new retaining walls and repairs to existing walls. Our work has also included a complete structural assessment of the existing structure, including a seismic review of the oldest fire hall in the province of British Columbia.
The Aboriginal Gathering Place is a new facility on Selkirk College’s Castlegar campus devoted to enhancing services, providing a welcoming and supportive environment to Aboriginal learners. The design of this timber frame and steel structure was inspired by traditional Aboriginal community spaces, and aids in the promotion of understanding of Aboriginal culture, tradition, and ceremony.
Inspired by the sacred geometry of the pyramid, this residence was constructed using modern materials to maximize functional interior space. The project design included an ingenious blend of reinforced concrete for the studio space, structural steel and dimensional wood for the main floor living space, and a timber framed upper level. Structural design was completed using 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM) software.
This natural building was constructed for a permaculture-based micro-farm, east of Nelson, BC. The locally sourced timber frame structure was constructed using wood-chip clay bricks, finished with natural plaster for the exterior walls. It features a living (green) roof and a 2-storey greenhouse area.
